Sarah Palin Needs a First Amendment Lesson

News Flash: Add the first amendment to the Constitution to the list of things Sarah Palin knows nothing about:

"If [the media] convince enough voters that that is negative campaigning, for me to call Barack Obama out on his associations," Palin told host Chris Plante, "then I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of first amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media."

For everyone else who paid as little attention to their teacher in high school government class as Palin apparently did, the right to free speech that comes with the first amendment does not come with an exemption from criticism. Indeed, the right to criticize other's opinions, especially those of our politicians, is crucial to our government system, and is precisely what the first amendment was written for.

That Palin could misunderstand such a fundamental aspect of our government proves yet again that she is fundamentally and objectively unqualified for the position she seeks. It has nothing to do with her political positions. She simply has no idea what she is doing.
